Showdown - Aces and Eights the RPG combat rules
Kenzer and Co

These are the combat rules for an upcoming Western Genre RPG. These can be used as a stand alone combat system for other RPGs or just for a gun fight skirmish game. The main thrust of the rules focuses on a Shot Dial- a kind of dart board style target on an acetate sheet. You use this with the silouete of a gunfigher to literally aim your shot. Dice are rolled to see if you hit - or if you deviate. If so pocker cards are drawn and used to see where the shot lands. Sounds fun. A critical dice system then is used to see what the effect is. The actual moving around the table is done by an initiatve clock system. This involves every action taking a certain count. So firing an aimed gun is a 1 count, drawing a rifle 10 etc. YOu roll a d10 add or subtract your speed bonus and add the count. The GM then starts at 1 and counts upwards. Each player then takes an action when there count comes up and the count continues. When a player takes an action he then nominates the next one and rolls the d10. Simple and should be easy.
I will report back when I have played this.
Sitting Ducks Gallery - A game of quacky fun.
Playroom Entertainment

This is a good family game for kids maybe 8+ is they can read well and anice viciious game for adults. A good one for the pub on the night of a games convention.. Each player has 5 ducks in their colour. All the ducks are represented by cards . There are also cards for open water. IN addition their are action cards which make the game work.
The cards are dealt out along a duck line. The duck line will them have random selection of the players ducks and also some open water spaces. .Players then have 3 action cards. Each turn youplay a card and draw a card. The cards enable you to aim at a duck and place a target symbol just above their heads. YOu can shoot with them. They also move the ducks around, make ducks hide, move ducks off the duck line and back into the pack etc.
Play proceeds in afairly frantic way with ducks getting shot, escaping the duck line, getting dealt onto the duck line etc. The last player with any ducks alive wins.
A good game. Play it with family and also gamers.
My Rating 1Player NA 2-3 Player 7/10 4-6 Players 8/10
Its only £8.99 which i think is good value.
Axis and Allied Miniatures
Wizards of the Coast
The Axis and Allies series of games are off course decent fun multiplayer WW2 games or the large scale. Axis and Allies Miniatures is not that type of game. This is a collectible minis game like D+D minis, Rocket Men, Pirtaes of the Spanish Main, Mechwarrior etc. Starter packs have 2 vehicles and 9 infantry, rules, map sheets, stat cards and counters. Booster packs have 2 vehicles and 7 infantry plus stat cards.
The vehicles are good quality. I can see people picking them up just for the tanks to use in table top wargames. The figures are however individual (other than MGs) and ithink look a bit small on their own. They really should have been mounted in 2s or 3. Map sheets are floppy and glossy and I am not entirely happy with them.
The stat cards contain all the info needed for each unit.Play proceeds in turns. Each turn players roll init. Then the winner moves, then the other player moves. Then the initiave winner fires - or moves again and then the other player. Finally casuaty resolution takes place. It looks smple enough to pick up.
Games are designed around 100 pts which gets you may be 3 shermans and 2 sqauds , or 1 tiger and ATt gun and a squad. There are rules for attack defense battles.
I will mark this when I have played it.
