An Abandoned Tower
Another short scenario to use as a "filler" in a campaign.I tend to use a lot of these little ruins and towers to occupy a spare hour or two when there is not enough time to begin a large dungeon ( of which I hope to add more later). Characters should be low/medium level.
The Situation
The tower was once a watch tower on the western border of Cardolan on the Brandywine river. When the Shire was established it was abandoned. Rumours of haunting or treasure might be used to lure party members to the tower. It is posistioned against a cliff with the door facing the cliff. Long ago a rock fall blocked the door . A window on the other side of the tower facing over the river is the only visable way in. The following is a vertical plan of the tower:
Description:
1.The door. The rockfall has completely blocked the door Moving the rocks will take 4 men a month. Each day there is a 10% chance of an accidental collapse of the rocks. This may recquire a quickess roll (or dex) to avoid the fall. Perhaps a D level crush crit may occur. Party members with mining skills may speed up the process.
2.The window. This looks far more likely a route into the tower. It is 20 feet above the ground and the walls are smooth. It recquires a sheer folly roll every 10 feet climbed . A fall means a B crush crit + (A if under 10 foot).
3.The upper floor. This was once accomodation for the 5 men stationed at the tower. There are 5 rotten beds and a small wooden chest with old clothing and some worthless belongings. If the party really search every cranny a total of 25 silver pieces will be fond. A curtain covers a small kitchen and storage area. A ladder leads to a trap door onto the roof. Stairs lead down from a trap door in the floor.
4. The lower floor. This was the guard room . There is a table and chairs . On the wall is a rack of weapons- mainly spears, swords and the odd bow. There are 2 chest under the stairs( out of immediate view ) . Also hidding under the stairs are 5 skeletons. These were the last squad sent to the tower . They were killed in a plaque they contracted . After they became ill and weak quickly the rock fall prevented them leaving so they died trapped in the tower. They will attack any one disturbing there peace. The will wait until the party descend into the room Skeletons Level 3 . OB 50, DB 20. HP 50. May not be stunned. Slash weapons cause half damage.
Once the fight is over the party will examine the chests:
Chest 1 . Locked Hard to pick. Trapped hard to disarm and detect. If failed sets of a fireball grenade (+50) - see miscellaneous treasure items. 50 gpc, dagger + 20 vs trolls.
Chest 2 . Trapped hard to disarm and detect. If failed sets of a coldball grenade (+50). 100 Gpc, Fireball scroll, Triad of fire scroll.
Perhaps a map linking to the main campaign plot or just another treasure site can be included.
Have fun.
