 The Campaigns Minimize

DarkAge

DarkAge is a play by mail game that I ran some 3-4 years agoin the UK - based in Birmingham but with players from Manchester, Sheffield and Warwick. The game is one of diplomacy , intrigue and battle in post Roman Britain. This is the era of Saxons, Angles , Picts , Irish and Briton. It is the time of the birth traumas of the British Nations as they exist today. It is the time of legend and myth .And it is the time of Arthur.

Napoleon in Germany

This was a short campaign that did not get far.

In 1812 The Emperor Napoleon lead some half a million French and Allied troops into Russia . By the following Spring abandoned by their Prussian and Austrian allies a pathetic 30,000 had got back to Germany . The rest had died in the snows of the merciless Russian winter a thousand miles from their homes.

The Russians eager for revenge pursued the French . Prussia abandoned the French alliance and it became obvious would declare war on their former allies. Austria became neutral - but for how long . Urged on by Britain a powerful coalition was forming . The French empire was doomed -that seemed obvious .

Napoleon however had different plans . He had left his Grand Armee in Russia and headed for Paris . Firstly he needed to stabilize the political situation . Then he set to building a new army . Around the core of the survivors of Russia , old veterans in France and battalions recalled from fighting Wellington in Spain he constructed a new army. Young recruits were called up. Garrison and civil defense formations were drafted in. The army was poorly trained , only half equipped and woefully short of cavalry but in a few months Napoleon had an army of 200,000 men available for him .

In the early spring the army was concentrating in Westphalia . The allies were in Saxony . The French Empire East of the Rhine was at stake . More then that - this was Napoleons chance of keeping the enemy out of France . In late April his Corps began moving east.

The campaign had begun...
